Signs of Rodents in Your House
Just because you haven't actually seen a mouse or rat doesn't mean your home is rodent-free. If you suspect you have unwanted intruders, see below for a guide to signs that may indicate rodent activity.
*Based on Nielsen unit share data.
![Droppings](http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/hpc/detail-page/c26-B000QRCB68-droppings.png)
Mouse droppings are usually about 1/8 of an inch long and black in color. Rats droppings can range from about 1/2 an inch long to 3/4 of an inch long.
![Footprints](http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/hpc/detail-page/c26-B000QRCB68-footprints.png)
Tracks can be spotted along areas where rodents travel. Dusting with flour or talc can help spot them. Use a strong flashlight at a low angle to check for tracks and tail drags.
![Gnawing](http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/hpc/detail-page/c26-B000QRCB68-gnawing.png)
Evidence of recent gnawing, especially on packaged goods, cardboard boxes, and areas around pipes, ducts, and vents.
![Rub-Marks](http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/hpc/detail-page/c26-B000QRCB68-rubmarks.png)
Dark greasy marks formed by contact with the rat's body. Frequently found along areas where rodents travel.
![Unusual Pet Activity](http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/hpc/detail-page/c26-B000QRCB68-activity.png)
Your dog or cat pawing excitedly at a kitchen cabinet, the base of your refrigerator, or a wall could be a sign of rodent activity.
![Sounds](http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/hpc/detail-page/c26-B000QRCB68-sounds.png)
Do you hear scampering noises in the walls at night? Chewing or gnawing sounds?
![Burrows or Nests](http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/hpc/detail-page/c26-B000QRCB68-nests.png)
